When you are shopping for things for your new baby, then baby cribs are a first priority. You want to find the best possible crib. Moreover, you want your baby to feel happy, comfortable, and most of all safe. It is easy to ensure that occurs. You simply have to consider a variety of things before you buy a crib. To discover what those are, just check out the tips in the article.
It goes without saying that there are tons of different kinds of cribs available. You have to keep in mind that your baby will be sleeping in the crib until he or she is two or three, at which point a full sized bed is safe. Safety is the most important issue when you are buying a crib.
So, keeping that in mind, let's look at the different kinds of cribs you can buy. We are going to start with standard cribs, of which there are two kinds. The first kind has a single side which you can drop down. The second kind has double drop sides.
There are pros and cons associated with each one. For instance, you may not be able to get the baby out of the crib quickly enough with a single drop. However, there is less of a chance that he or she will knock down the side and fall out of the bed. The chances of that are riskier with a double drop crib. However, you can get to the baby quite easily.
The next kind of crib is going to be a convertible crib. These cribs are extremely popular as they can shift from one cycle of your child's life to another. It can change from a crib usually into a daybed or a full-sized bed, depending on the kind of crib that you get. This crib, while expensive in the beginning will save you a ton of money later in life.
Canopy cribs are ideal if you want something classy and elegant. Like adult canopies, there are four posts on the corners, onto which is attached a metal frame. The canopy goes on the crib. There are also round cribs. They tend to be single drop cribs.
No matter what kind of crib you want to buy, make sure you consider how safe it is first. Any crib you choose should have the following features. For drop sides, it should be nine inches over the mattress, at least. There should be no more than 2 3/8 inches between the crib's slats. There should not be room for greater than two fingers in between the mattress and the side of the crib.
